Tuesday 12/12/17
Cold with overnight temperatures well below freezing for some, especially across central and northern areas with some ice too. A cool west to northwesterly pattern influences the country. A bright day, with crisp winter sunshine. Wintry showers around western coasts, with snow over higher ground. Central and eastern regions should stay mainly dry. Longer spells of rain, perhaps with sleet and snow on hills will move into western areas late in the day. Temperatures a degree or so higher for most, but still cold, 2C to 6C.

Wednesday 13/12/17
Fronts moving in from the Atlantic bring a mix of rain, sleet and hill snow, the snow primarily across the Pennines and parts of Scotland, although it looks likely that milder air will advance further across the country, meaning more areas will see rain and a thaw of previous snow cover across more central regions. Strengthening westerly winds. Highs 3C to 7C, mildest in the south.

Thursday 14/12/17
Most likely on the cold side as northwesterly winds dominate. Areas of rain and showers moving south and east during the day, wintry in places, snow mostly over the hills in northern regions. Some bright or sunny spells for central inland regions. Cold, especially in the wind, Highs 3C to 7C.

Friday 15/12/17
Staying rather cold as N or NW'ly winds return. Further wintry showers possible at times, especially around the periphery of the British Isles. Overnight frosts return and will be more widespread than previous nights too. Highs 2C to 7C, coldest north.

Saturday 16/12/17
Pressure may briefly build from the west. Largely dry, with scattered wintry showers near coasts. Frosty overnight. Highs 2C to 6C.

Sunday 17/12/17
Uncertainties over the details but a cold and frosty start across many areas could well be followed by a low pressure trying to move in from the west through the day to bring a risk of rain, sleet and snow, the snow primarily on higher ground of the north but some accumulations are possible at the moment. Winds N o NW'ly, backing more W'ly through the day. Highs 2C to 6C.
