Stormy weekend, heavy rain
A deep area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic later on Friday, bringing gales, or severe gales around coasts in the south & south-west. Wet and windy for most places this weekend, although some brighter intervals should develop. Next week, south-westerly winds will bring further rain, heaviest on western hills of England & Wales on Monday & Tuesday.

Sunday 22/10/17 A cool and blustery day. Areas of heavy showery rain, locally merging into rain for many hours across the north-west of England and western Scotland. Some south-western areas may be largely dry. A little sun breaking through at times. Rain returns from the west for Ireland later. Westerly winds, strongest in the morning, locally gusting gale force around some coasts & hills, tending to ease. Highs 9 to 14C, coolest north-west.
Monday 23/10/17 A cool start to the morning, then becoming slowly milder as a warm front pushes east across Britain. Overcast skies, with extensive fog for western hills, and murky around south-western coasts. Persistent rain in the west, heavy over the hills, with outbreaks of rain or drizzle spreading to most places through the day, but amounts small to the east of high ground. Freshening south-westerly winds. Temperatures rising to 12 to 16C.
Tuesday 24/10/17 Slow-moving fronts bring a risk of persistent heavy rain to west Wales and north-west England. Elsewhere, largely dry, but quite cloudy for England & Wales, with a risk of patchy drizzle. A few showers in western Scotland, but some sunshine breaking through east of the Highlands. A south-westerly breeze. Generally mild, 12 to 17C, warmest in the south-east.
Wednesday 25/10/17 Generally mild during midweek. Fronts are likely to bring further outbreaks of rain to the west & north-west, but should fade as pressure begins to build. Many central & south-eastern regions should be dry, although cloud amounts are uncertain. Feeling warm where sunshine breaks through. Highs 12 to 18C.
Thursday 26/10/17 Detail is uncertain, but a south to south-westerly airflow is likely. Rain most likely confined toward the north-west, whilst many places may well stay dry. Mild, or warm in sunshine, although it may remain rather cloudy. Highs 12 to 18C.
Friday 27/10/17 A similar mild southerly pattern is likely. Chance of patchy rain north-west, but many places looking dry with higher pressure building. Warm in any sun. Highs 12 to 17C, perhaps locally 19C.
