Wet in the south, windy
Colder, snow showers in north

New Year's Day
A colder day to start the new year and it will be a wet one as an area of moderate to heavy rain clears northern England and Wales and moves into central and southern parts of England. An area of sleet and snow will spread in across central and eastern parts of Scotland during the day with a risk of a few wintry showers across north east England later in the afternoon. Strong north to north east winds will produce a significant wind chill with highs of 3 to 6 Celsius.

New Year's Night
It remains windy into the evening and the night. Still some rain to come south of the M4 Corridor for the evening with snow showers across northern Scotland to low levels. A dry night to come for many with clear skies. There is a risk of wintry showers across north east England and northern Scotland. Some icy patches may develop by morning across England and Wales. Minimum temperatures of -1 to 2 Celsius.

Monday
Colder into Monday. Brisk north to north west winds will lessen though the day. Fine and dry for most areas with plenty of crisp, wintry sunshine. More cloud to be found near eastern coasts along with a scattering of rain and sleety showers. Temperatures will be dropping through the evening as it becomes quite cold overnight with a widespread and sharp frost. Windier and frost free across Scotland. Expect top temperatures of 3 to 5 Celsius.

Tuesday
Windy in the north and the east and feeling cold again today. Apart from some patchy rain in the north west of Scotland, high pressure is expected to give much of Britain a fine, dry day with good sunny spells after a cold, frosty start with a few fog patches. Some light rain may affect the north of Scotland tonight. Most of the country will be dry with a frost perhaps restricted to the far south of England where it will be less windy. Look for high temperatures of 4 to 7 Celsius.
