Milder weather arriving across all regions as winds become more west or south-westerly

High pressure is set to become a dominant feature into next week, but will also lead to much higher temperatures across many areas.

Sunday 17/12/17
A ridge of high pressure affects much of the UK on Sunday. This should bring mostly fair conditions with broken cloud and some sunny spells, best in the east. A front moves into Scotland and Ireland in the morning with cloud and rain, this filtering further south and east through the day. Highs at 4 to 8C for most but 11C in Ireland.

Monday 18/12/17
A ridge of high pressure builds through all areas on Monday. There will be a front clearing the southeast at first taking some cloud and patchy rain or drizzle with it. Following is brighter and drier weather. A milder day at 5 to 12C, but local frost to start the day through central areas.

Tuesday 19/12/17
A mild and moist southwest flow affects all parts of Ireland and Scotland on Tuesday. It is likely to be a breezy day with plenty of cloud and outbreaks of drizzle in the north and west. More southern and eastern areas may be brighter with some sunny spells. Highs near 7 to 12C.

Wednesday 20/12/17
Pressure stays relatively high through Wednesday, especially across England and Wales. This brings the driest weather to the south and east although always a risk of some drizzle and light rain on western coasts and hills. Damp through Scotland and Ireland with fronts close by. Mild at 5 to 12C.

Thursday 21/12/17
A mild day again in a southwest flow. There could be rain through Scotland and Northern Ireland, although much of England and Wales should be dry. However, western coasts and hills could see some low cloud and drizzle. Highs at 6 to 12C.

Friday 22/12/17
Uncertainties over the details with a distinct split in the weather models at the moment, but a possible change in wind direciton to more of a NW'ly could lead to somewhat colder conditions filtering southwards with some rain and showers, equally the milder west or south-westerly weather type could continue. Temperatures around 4 to 10C.
