Heavy showers & cold
Windy south & west

Issued: 0530hrs Tuesday 28th February 2017
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Cold with heavy showers, snow on high ground and windy in the west

Good morning,

It's a chilly morning across the country with an early frost i central and eastern areas. Dry and bright here with good periods of sunshine, although a few showers affect western coasts and hills. More persistent cloud and showers, merging to longer periods of rain in western Scotland, Ireland and the wets of England and Wales. These will be turning to snow over high ground, and even at lower levels in heavier showers there could be some sleet or wet snow.

This afternoon sees heavy showers or longer spells of rain and stronger winds reaching northern England, Ireland and Wales with further bands of showers passing through the Midlands and southern England. Snow over hills of northern England and Wales, and perhaps some may settle briefly at lower levels.

Tonight sees a few showers in England and Wales but becoming dry for many with some ice by morning. Heavier showers in northern Scotland, perhaps turning to snow on the hills.
